  9.  AB    Improved methods of human immunodeficiency virus isolation have sparked
  10.        an increased interest in determination of the number and proportion of
  11.        infected cells in plasma samples. The limiting dilution assay is a
  12.        popular method of determining the proportion of infected cells. We
  13.        propose a new estimator of the proportion of infected cells based on an
  14.        underlying Markov chain model for the progression of infected cells to
  15.        further flasks in the series. This method should improve both design and
  16.        analyses of these assays.
